CIA’s Help For Heroes Colossal Cake Sale week
From the 28th of April to the 2nd of May, CIA hosted an in-house ‘cake-off’ whereby different departments were pitted against each other in a bid to raise money for the worthy Help For Heroes charity (H4H) through their Colossal Cake Sale initiative.
The UK military charity H4H hardly needs annotation; it’s a well known charity that provides direct lifelong support for our wounded soldiers and their families in many different practical ways.
The majority of the event was organised by our Suzanne Eacott who also came up with the idea to transform this established fundraiser into an interdepartmental competition. Suzanne is a contracts administrator, a valuable member of our sales admin team and has been with us since 2011.
CIA’s departments were condensed into five groups based on size and expected participation (ie installation and service are our biggest departments but because our engineers work remotely the internal staff would work together). The groups laid out their cakes each morning in the staff canteen to sell via honor system all through each day.
Culminating on Armed Forces Day Friday, which saw many staff fully enter into the spirit of the week by dressing up in Armed Forces attire. At the end of the week the sales figures were calculated and the results were as follows:
Monday – Accounts – £28.00
Tuesday – Purchasing & Stores – £31.00
Wednesday – Service & Install – £46.00
Thursday – Management & Directors – £38.98
Friday – Sales & Administration – £101.98
Nikki Carr, our administration manager, also baked a large cake in the shape of a tank which she sold for £20 to Suzanne whose retired serviceman Father was celebrating his birthday that evening.
The whole cake sale raised £246.36 which, together with H4H wristbands and Union Jack lapel pins which were also on sale, totalled a whopping £281.46!!!
Well done sales & administration who made the most money by a comfortable margin. And thank you to all those that participated by buying cakes, dressing up, especially those that baked, and of course, Suzanne, for all her planning and hard work!
