Goodbye to Good Friend, David Whittaker
David Whittaker
October 1938 – December 2005
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dave Whittaker on 20 December 2005.
Dave joined CIA in 1979 when he came out of the Navy and he stayed with us until he retired in March 2002.
During that time, he progressed from Alarm Technician to Installation Manager to Service Manager and ultimately to Training Manager. He gave 100% to each of these roles and his commitment and dedication contributed to the success of the company. Perhaps his greatest achievement and his legacy to us was as Training Manager when he laid the foundations for the programmes which we use today.
Dave was loyal, popular and unfailingly good humoured, with a dry and subtle wit. We missed him when he retired (although many of us benefited from his new career of Gardener/Handyman) and he’d often pop in to keep an eye on us all and amuse us with his unique take on life. Nor can we forget his Les Dawson-style “turn” at the Christmas party; to this day, I am not quite sure how and where he got his material but it always hit the mark!
He was well known and liked around Waterlooville as well, and especially at the RNA Club – an association for Old Sailors – in which he took an active interest, where he enjoyed his tipple and where, sadly, he died.
Dave is survived by his wife, Maureen, and sons, Colin and Keith, to whom we offer our deepest condolences at this sad and difficult time.
