Sherry Completes Portsmouth Race For life
The sun may not have lit up the day, but 8,000+ women all wearing various shades of pink certainly did! It was a sea of pink as far as the eye could see as they ran, jogged and walked the recent Portsmouth Race for Life to raise money for breast cancer.
The walkers were the last to set off and among them was CIA’s own Sherry Dagan. She and her sister were doing the 5K to show solidarity with Sherry’s mother-in-law (pictured here with Sherry) who was diagnosed with breast cancer last Christmas.
Sherry said it was an amazing and emotional experience. “All along the route everyone was cheering for us – our own supporters (our whole family turned out for me and my sister) and even the stewards.
“We didn’t feel we deserved it really when you looked at some of our fellow walkers. You could see that they were ill but still determined to do the walk. It was very humbling.
“We all had own stories for being there and some of them were heartbreaking but there was a great feeling of camaraderie, and in our own small way, we did make a difference, so thank you everyone who sponsored us.
“It’s a happy ending for us! Not only was my Mum in law signed off the week before the race, but I couldn’t wear Sue’s Race for Life tee shirt as planned because it was too small… I’m expecting my second baby in January!”
Sherry and her sister beat their target and raised over £150 between them.
