Portsmouth Burgular Still At Large
Shirley Shaw of Southern Monitoring ran in this years Portsmouth RFL dressed as a Burglar.
Last year, girls from both Southern Monitoring Services and Christie Intruder Alarms, dressed as burglars and took part in the Portsmouth and the Southampton ‘Race for Life’.
The girls ran in memory of Chris Walsh, who had died just days before from cancer. She had worked in the ARC (Alarm Receiving Centre) for 14 years and was a very popular and much loved friend and colleague. Altogether, the girls raised in excess of £1800 for Cancer Research, contributed by friends, colleagues, and other alarm companies.
Everyone said it was a very moving and inspiring experience, with many special tales to tell. After all, most people’s lives have been touched by cancer one way or another, whether they have it themselves or have lost someone dear to them.
This year, Shirley Shaw from Southern Monitoring ran dressed as a burglar – again in Chris’s memory – in the Portsmouth Race for Life on Sunday the 3rd of June (2007).
She completed the 9 Km race in 44 minutes and raised over £200 for Cancer Research. At the end of the race Shirley said, “Never again!” – Sounds like it was hard work, well done Shirley!
